German (LIGM) Courses

First Year

German Year 1 Courses: 1A and 1AX 1st Quarter, 1B and 1BX 2nd Quarter, 1C and 1CX 3rd Quarter

Second Year

German Year 2 Courses: 1D and 1DX 4th Quarter, or Literature 2A 4th Quarter, Literature 2B 5th Quarter, Literature 2C 6th Quarter.

Students who are planning to continue studying the language or its literature may want to take Literature 2A rather than LIGM 1D/DX. To discuss your particular situation, please contact your advisor or the German Academic Coordinator.

Courses

The Conversation and Analysis sections are two halves of one course and need to be taken together.
Both are designed to immerse you in the language and give you a practical ability as quickly as possible.

Conversation Sections (1A, 1B, 1C, 1D)

Conversation (MWF) classes focus on vocabulary development, cultural knowledge, and speaking German.

Analysis Sections (1AX, 1BX, 1CX, 1DX)

Analysis (TuTh) classes focus on listening, reading, and learning how to analyze the German language and culture.


 Academic Calendar

German Calendar: Fall Quarter LIGM 1A and 1AX and 1D and 1DX are offered. Winter Quarter LIGM 1B and 1BX are offered. Spring Quarter LIGM 1C and 1CX are offered. Summer Session LIGM 5A, 5B, and 5C are offered.

*Note: The offering of summer courses is dependent upon student enrollment.

Advanced Study

  • Literatures in German. The Department of Literature offers intermediate and advanced courses in German.
